My Books

“When I started in the industry, a lot of people told me I would not be able to make it, and that there would be too many challenges for me to overcome.”

Build, Lead, Stay Strong.
“In my 20 years of being in the industry rarely have I met someone who is passionate about his career consistently, taking care of his clients and consultants like taking care of his own family. […] In this book, Derek will share readily usable techniques that helped him achieve his success.”
Jonash Go, District Manager of PruLife UK

Build, Lead, Stay Strong
“I wrote Build, Lead, Stay Strong in 2021 – an autobiography about how I was able to build my team and a 4,000 strong client base from the ground-up. A large portion of the book focuses on client testimonials – powerful stories inspiring agents with how we make real and tangible improvements to people’s lives.”
This is the autobiography of Derek Wong, a computing graduate from Monash University, Melbourne who left a successful IT Consulting Career at age 27 to join the insurance industry. The book will contain key strategies on how he has managed to find his first 100 clients and then grow it to 3000 clients.
One such strategy is using customer testimonies to create trust and urgency.
This is the story of how he managed to achieve 7 times MDRT, in 2020 a COT and in 2021 his first TOT despite not having any prior sales experience, lack of sustainable natural market and inability to converse in many languages.
He currently holds the record for most number of Life Club Qualifications for Malaysia and has even closed 327 cases during the Covid-19 lock down year.
Derek will also share how his parents, spouse and mentors have helped him to move to the next level from being a top producer to building an agency that consists of multiple TOT and MDRTs. He will share the honest challenges that he faced in recruiting and training new people. One such experience is the incident that happened when he was just newly promoted unit manager, all his full time agents left him. This was one of his toughest moments when he managed to rebound and build a team that grew 300% yearly production.
Derek has been chosen in the past to speak in countries in Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines and Indonesia. Derek hopes that this book will inspire both agents and leaders to grow their business to a new level while helping others.
