Food Poisoning to a Cancer Diagnosis

Hi, I’m Jeevan and my wife, Maliga, was the one who had introduced me to Derek about a decade ago–could be more–when I signed up for a medical card. Both of us are government servants. My wife is a senior police officer and I am a senior staff at the chemistry department. One day, my daughter had a severe stomach ache. My daughter went into the hospital first and got admitted. Then I felt that discomfort and decided it was best to visit the hospital. The doctor did 60a check-up and a scope and suspected that I have cancer! I thought I would have the same diagnosis as food poisoning, but I was shocked when the doctor said I would admit due to something terrible!

I was admitted to Sunway Medical Centre (SMC) for surgery and was hospitalized for a month. I had done all the necessaries to treat a cancer patient, of course–did chemotherapy, daily monitor and others, prior to the surgery, which actually took several long hours to be done. As a post-surgery treatment, I was supposed to continue with my chemotherapy, but the weight loss I was suffering with (which had me losing 10 kilograms just from the operation itself), the doctors did not allow me to continue with chemo. Since then, I have only been doing annual scans and check-ups, alongside taking care of myself, and my condition gradually got better after seven years. Now, I suppose I’m a cancer survivor!

Anyway, the fact that I, myself, was entitled for a first-class ward in government hospitals, being a Director General of Chemistry, I still opted for a private hospital because I needed a quick-service treatment by the hospital without having to wait in line or waiting list like how government hospitals normally would have their patients do. So, I was very happy with the service Prudential has provided for me with the medical card I had purchased, which had helped with the expenses of getting treatments from the hospital.

However, the downside of my story was that my limit was fairly low than the actual cost of my surgery. My medical card was only about RM50k limit when the total fees reached about RM200k, what a bummer. I urge everyone to review their policies and to upgrade into an unlimited plan. Sadly, I cannot do that anymore due to cancer. This is why whenever other people had asked about insurance, I would remind them to actually get a higher limit policy. Yes, we’re going to have to pay more than intended, but it is still for the sake of our own future given the cost of healthcare now is getting more expensive each year. It’s best to be prepared now than regretting later.

But besides that, I was still very happy with how Derek has handled my claims for me and everything else. I already have my family and relatives become Derek’s own client, and I would definitely recommend Prudential to everyone else that I meet.
